How many license deals make a chip set?

While some lament the lack of trade news on PTSC`s recent sucess, the reality is there are many license deals needed to sell a complete chip set to an OEM or through an ODM.

The company I work with manufactures a few amplifiers for the music products industry. One of the chip sets we buy is from TI and it comes with a list of some 9 licenses. Now, this is a rather simple chip -- for those who care, it has a little modeling. If a chip set were to be used to manage files, flash, DSP, or other more complicated functions, how many more licenses would be needed?

The point is PTSC has one piece of the puzzle, only one of many. The success TPL has had should not be discounted, but it is just the first step to become a real player in the selling of chip sets.

Let`s just see how far they get before we cast the first stones. Up only 1000%+? It will get better, IMO.
