And this I KNOW! Right down to OUR strategy; sell some at a good price point and hold the rest for a year or two+.
Through some trade manuevering recently, I`ve ``booked`` a lot of losses (and bought back after 31 days - you know what stock! LOL) to posture for a major tax-free gain. There`s my exit point near term for a (20-25%) portion, then hold the rest at least until I qualify for long term capital gain status (1 year+) to fully capitalize on further gains. I just hate paying the tax man unnecessarily, and this strategy fits nicely with probable max-out point in a year or two or three. I`m even planning to move from CA to a state income tax free state (NV) to further capitalize (the plan here being the state tax savings pays for a decent house - would you move for a ``free`` house? Well, how `bout a house at half price anyway... LOL).
