I don`t think that is correct. My understanding (and I could be wrong, just ask my wife and kids), is that the reason they have a date of record is simply to record eligiblity for the dividend, but thereafter you can sell your stock if you wish without sacrificing the dividend. I know I did with another stock (sold off 1/2) and still got the dividend.
