This is pure seculation but I am tying to find something positive while waiting forever for a ruling on the Markman.

It was noted that there were a lot of suits attending the hearing in Jan., presumably lawyers from interested parties who may be infringing. Can it be that Ford had some representation present at the hearing and, after hearing the arguments, deemed it in their best interest to settle before the ruling? Of course, that then begs the question why haven't others settled?

As I said, pure speculation. Not worth much. But I am desparately trying to find something positive.
