What seems a bit odd in this circumstance is that the "no-no" as you call it works both ways. Yes, it appears that Lecky didn't follow legal protocol. But neither did the Barco CEO. It works both ways. I doubt Lecky held a gun to anyone's head to get that audience with the Barco CEO. The CEO allowed this to happen. He could have just said "no", and/or directed Lecky to his legal counsel. He didn't. He (apparently) willingly enabled the act.
It's like having someone wave you through a stop sign without stopping, and then that someone complaining that you didn't stop at the sign; and then demanding consideration (money) because you didn't stop.
