I'm hip. But IMO "professionals" generally recognize the impact on their (sometimes lavish) lives if they are caught - and they are certainly less prepared for the consequencies than your average petty criminal (i.e., jail time and career over).

BTW, my brother is a retired LA Cty. Sherriff - so I do have a bit of a clue, though he was a Vice Detective (different "venue").

Also, I've seen the fear in the eyes of CFOs/CEOs of significantly large corporations for something as minor as a bad internal timecard audit with a 1% error rate. Reaction? Demands for management to emphasize the importance of attention to correct time charging.

In my experience, these people do NOT place themselves at risk because the risk is simply too great, and they have a lot more to lose.
