Did everyone forget that warrant holders got the dividends too? It wasn't designed as a nice gesture towards shareholders. It was a way for insiders to siphon off cash. The dividends shareholders got was just a collateral bonus.

The dividends also served to spike the share price, yet another boon to insiders and warrant holders.

The "good old days" were just as blatantly self-serving as the current ones.
