Skype is a P2P VoIP and/or video application that uses standard CODECs for transcoding at low bandwidth. My experience with it was OK, but nothing to write home about. The strength of Avot (from what we know based on their marketing materials) is the dynamic transcoding of the audio and video for on-demand or live streaming, gearing it up or down in bit rate and quantization based on real-time network conditions. IMO, the two platforms do not compare well, as they are at two different tiers in this market.
