Been there too, observing protection of egos as the prevailing force, but rarely when peopele`s backs are to the wall. At some point, rational minds do prevail when it is recognized that failure to act rationally will result in a much worse situation.

And egos can be perserved when a result, all things considered, can (somehow) be perceived as a ``win``. And I have noticed situations where the ego-bound can embrace a concept (almost any concept) as a winning idea IF they perceive it as THEIR idea (even if it wasn`t!). Ego perserved....
