As a business owner I would prefer a royalty over a payment schedule everytime.
A payment is a fixed cost regardless if business is good or bad. Royalties on the other hand allow for a slump in productivity. Furthermore a company can raise the price for a component that uses the MMP to reflect their license agreement. If payments are agreed to, it's not as easy to incorporate an increase in cost to their clients.

To me, the 'future payments' must be royalty based. The upfront payment is akin to leasing a tract of land whilst knowing there is gold to be mined therein. The original owner ( PTSC ) knows there is gold there as well. Therefore PTSC leases out the land but still takes a cut of what is rightfully theirs.

Unless there is some 'tax' advantage to payments over time vs. royalties. Future payments must equal 'royalty payments'. I have to agree that payments sound better in a PR than does royalty payments when speaking of a deal with company X. And that could just be the case for future MMP purchasers so that it sounds easy for them to mine their gold along with others that have already signed. In other words. It's salemanship to say 'payments' can be arranged to get you on board. Instead of," You can get a license, but that's only the half of it."

Maybe I'm being overly simplistic therefore, Corrections welcomed.
