Samsung CIS supply tightens |
Hans Wu, Taipei; Meiling Chen, DIGITIMES [Friday 12 June 2009]

The lead time on Samsung Electronics' CMOS image sensors (CIS) has extended from one month to three due to capacity adjustments. Some camera module markers are experiencing supply shortages as a result, according to sources with Taiwan CIS makers.
The sources said the shortage of Samsung's 1.3-megapixel CIS is also dampening the Korean vendor's shipment schedule for its own netbooks that adopt the image sensor. Lenovo is another major customer for Samsung's 1.3-megapixel CIS products.
According to the sources, Samsung has indicated that it will focus on the netbook market and aims to ship 400,000 netbooks each month in the second half of 2009, with yearly shipments totaling 5.5-6 million. Samsung has also asked camera module makers to adopt more of its CIS products, said the sources
