Crossflow could have been just an aquisition. Things shifted after the fact in RG's favor. Who would have guessed Obama would have come out swinging so heavily on insurance / medical record reform / data sharing.

Being in the right place at the right time doesnt happen often. Im not saying were there but i am saying it has the chance of lining up nicely given a nudge.

More than likely HP looked at it but decided to put there efforts elsewhere into something they felt had better pay off potential.

Even said by not acquiring crossflow HP is kind of in a win win by teaming with them and selling the hardware. Not the full risk as if they had bought crossflow but they still have the chance of reaping some good benefits if it goes well.
