Emergency services are not standing around with CAD, GIS, NCIS, and other data systems, wondering what to do with them. Smooth use of mulitiple platforms does exist and is in use. It has been for years. 9/11 was 8 years ago. Billions (with a B) of dollars have been spent through federal grants. The trough of federal dollars had engorged many private companies and benefited many public agencies with hardware, software, equipment and training. It has been an industry unto itself now for years. ANYONE getting into the game now is going to be dancing with themselves. They are too late to the show. About the best analogy I can come up with is that; some software company has come up with a new operating platform. How many people are replacing their computers this year ( or whenever) and are willing to dump MS or Apple systems in favor of a new platform? Now, relate that to a public budget item.
Just M.O. maybe someone else with inside knowledge can refute that.
Good Luck,
