Crazy Fish May Redefine Computer Industry

"This may be a significant filing," the lawyer told Fish when he handed him the patent document. It was 1989, and Fish and co-inventor Chuck Moore had invented a new microchip they called Sh-Boom. "Have you got anything else?" the patent lawyer asked.

Charles Moore and Russell Fish dreamed up the solution of letting the processor clock run as fast as you want while synchronizing it to the computer's much slower clock, enabling speeds in the gigahertz range. And that's the way things have worked for the past decade or so.
