As promised a month+ ago, I've taken the time to review this licensing agreement between PTSC and AMD (now extended to TPL too). The original concern/issue was the recollection of some (myself included) that there was something more to our deal with AMD, specifically that there may be ongoing royalties possibly forthcoming from Ignite/Inflame tech.
Though a little confusing in its wording, I've come to the conclusion that for what we now call the MMP, AMD did pay a one-time fee/royalty, and that payment extends to AMD customers in end products incorporating an AMD product. This does leave open customers who also use products from suppliers other than AMD (in the same end product).
This is only one of at least two agreements of the time with AMD. The other agreement (unseen) pertains specifically to Ignite technology, and (obviously IMO) differs in its terms - otherwise it would have just been incorporated into one all-encompassing agreement with one full-up payment for the whole enchilada. Thus, I again conclude (as years ago) that there is a distinct possibility that IF AMD does pursue Ignite technology, there very well may be royalties forthcoming to PTSC.
Now the question becomes whether TPL would share in those royalties. I suspect not, as I've never seen a suggestion that TPL received any rights to PTSC's wholly-owned tech in Ignite/Inflame/ShBoom - technology severable from MMP. So there may be something out there waiting for us on this front, and it may pay to keep an eye on current/future AMD products - especially those who are the more tech-savy amongst us. For one thing, I'm not certain that PTSC has the proper resources dedicated to watching AMD on a deal made 3 CEOs ago. An alert from anyone on our team would benefit all.
FWIW and JMHOs,
