Bottom Line For Goerner

posted on Sep 10, 2008 03:08PM

Let me start by saying Goerner seems to be doing a fine job so far. In my opinion, he is also the best CEO PTSC has had since I've been invested (early 2006). And while some may take it as such, this post is by no means meant to be a negative to him, but simply a reminder to him that the proof is in the pudding....or rather in the pps! And when you look at it from that SIMPLE and OBJECTIVE, but in REALITY, the ONLY important measure, so far he is the least successful of the last four PTSC CEO's....so far. I do expect that PTSC will begin to flourish under him at some point (hopefully SOON!), but as much as he is building a solid foundation, and as much as he is FINALLY a CEO who is taking proactive steps to grow the company, to be fair to myself as an investor, and to be OBJECTIVE in judging him, until he effects a positive change in the share price, I will not consider him to have been a successful CEO...at least not yet.

I thought it would be interesting to go back and compare the REALITY to the PERCEPTION of the situation of the last four CEO's of Patriot to see how they REALLY stack up in the ONLY metric that matters to me, an investor, and that is the RETURN on my money. So far, Pohl CLEARLY takes the championship with a 250% increase in pps and 360% increase in the market cap, while surprisingly (at least based on what I've heard on this board as I was not invested during his tenure) Wallin comes in a strong second with a pps increase factor of 40% and a market cap increase of 410%. Turley is at third with a decrease in pps of 19% and a decrease in market cap of 18%, while Goerner so far comes lagging far behind in last place with a decrease in pps of 38% and a decrease in market cap of 34%. These numbers take into account the share prices when they started and when the left, and the number of shares outstanding at those two milestones of their respective tenures (based on the SEC filings closest to those dates). Below I've listed the info I've used.

Again, this isn't intended to be negative, but simply to reinforce to to RG and the BOD if they read the board here, and to all of us as investors, that while we all seem to agree that PTSC is definitely on the right track, this CEO and this BOD are ultimately RESPONSIBLE TO US for an INCREASE in the value of OUR SHARES, not just in making deals and having a viable operating company that pays their salaries and keeps the operation moving foward. As a private company, that might be enough, but as a PUBLIC company, the ultimate focus HAS TO BE on providing a return on our investments, and without that, the rest is, while nice and positive, MEANINGLESS to me as an investor.

Obviuosly, it is too early to fully judge the moves Goerner has made, but they sure do seem to be positive. Hopefully, when some visiblity is provided into the details of these moves, we'll see some reflection in the share price that we can ultimately conclude them as positive. Until that happens, as far as I'm concerned, this BOD and this CEO must not feel comfortable or complacent, and better feel that the pressure is still on them. I certainly expect in the long run, Goerner will prove to be better than Pohl, but I also have expected the Steelers to win the Super Bowl EVERY YEAR. Until they do it, it's a bunch of hot air on my part and that's why they play the games! If anything, I hope this is an incentive to RG to provide as much transparency to the market has he can as SOON as he can, so that we can begin to see the fruits of his labors and of our patience. I want to give him a huge pat on the back as encouragement and recognition of his positive efforts but at the same time, until that is reflected in a steadily appreciating share price, as a gentleman recently not so intelligently said, it's really just "lipstick", lol. So what I'll say is KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, Mr. Goerner, and BOD Members, do something PROACTIVE to help him in his efforts!!!
