Is it possible that Pohl took JT under his wing and they probably developed a close relationship. When Pohl decided to retire it's possible that JT lost a great deal of support he had with Pohl on the board. This coupled with the constraints of the NDA and the possibility that the settlement with the J's took longer than JT anticipated so that he was unable to pull the trigger on an acquisition or merger as quickly as he had hoped because the money wasn't available yet or that with Pohl gone the power on the board shifted and the direction that JT wanted to take the company had shifted as well. Also with the shareholders up in arms putting some pressure on him for the sagging SP in spite of great news. Perhaps he felt powerless and decided to move on. All IMO.
All the best,
steve
