LONDON -- One of the oldest names in hand-held computing, Psion plc, has bought a Moore Microprocessor Patent Portfolio license from the TPL Group. Better known today for its mobile computing and wireless data collection activities through its Teklogix subsidiary, Psion, based in London, becomes the fourth European company to take a license for the Patent Potfolio, joining Philips Electronics, Nokia Oy, Lego Group and Schneider Electric.
Since January 2006 over 30 global companies from the US, Europe, Japan, Korea and Taiwan have purchased MMP Portfolio licenses.
"Psion continues to drive dramatic changes in the distribution of real-time enterprise data to the point of activity, and has shown true vision in embracing leadership technologies," said Andre-Pascal Chauvin, Vice President, Licensing for Alliacense.
TPL formed an alliance with Patriot Scientific Corp. in 2005 and pooled processor technology patents together in the "Moore Microprocessor Patent (MMP)" portfolio, named after Charles H. Moore, chief technology officer of TPL Group, who is credited with inventing the Forth software programming language and is known for his work in the 1980s on stack-based microprocessors.
