Dan Rowan was a letter correspondent / friend of Florida's finest author, the forever acclaimed John D. MacDonald.  JDM would have likened the J3 (and 400 others so notified) to villans doomed to the "Law Of Retribution".  Readers of his Travis McGee series know well of that sentiment ,i.e., Payback IS a Reward onto itself.  Here's hoping  we'll be witness to life immitating art in this business drama.....
