To me, it seems that to have a "trade", you have to have a buyer AND a seller, so if they trade 10,000 shares, they are not in fact trading only 5,000 shares, the seller is receiving 10,000 shares in exchange for MONEY, not shares. So with that in mind, the 10,000 shares, should represent the total shares traded.
