SAN JOSE, Calif. — There is a big shakeup in the top-10 semiconductor supplier rankings for the third quarter of 2007, according to IC Insights Inc.

Intel Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. remain as the world's first and second largest IC makers. But as shown (see Figure below), Toshiba Corp. moved past Texas Instruments Inc. and STMicroelectronics Inc. to become the third largest semiconductor supplier in the world, according to IC Insights.

The largest pure-play foundry in the world, TSMC, jumped one spot in the third quarter. If pure-play foundry TSMC were excluded from the ranking, NXP Corp. would move into the tenth position.

Meanwhile, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) moved into the top-10 ranking for the first time in its history.

TI, ST, and Renesas were the only top-10 companies to register less than double-digit sequential sales growth rates. On the other hand, Freescale Semiconductor Inc. continues to feel the pain of its biggest customer, Motorola, as the company went from being ranked as the 9th largest semiconductor supplier in the world in 2006 to 16th in the third quarter.
