A VC on the Board would be more driven by stock price if compensation was by stock options. Maybe someone who has retired or who is looking for more focus. Maybe someone who is local and can regularly be in contact. Someone who combines a strong understanding of how to best invest (rather than spend) hundreds of millions of dollars with the experience, expertise and persona to negotiate at all levels and to ensure adequate and appropriate due diligence is performed.
PTSC focus for the future, based on the backgrounds of JT and Mr Tredennick, seems to on the hardware/software industries. Maybe there's a better future use of our money. Maybe a VC is better attuned to a broader industry spectrum.
Prior postings mention the costs of expanding a business, the lag time between investment and return. My biggest concern is that if you buy in using dollars, they'll get spent. If you buy in using stock, there's more of incentive to make it happen. Stock buy back now would increase the stock available for M&A. The sooner this is done, assuming Texas goes right, the better. When the stock price increases it'll be a lot more expensive to buy back.
Just some thoughts.
