There are so many things I could say here about the Merger etc since I just finish my MBA.  I have done so much research on the overall effect of mergers and acquisitions on a companies etc.  One thing I will say is they must make sure the company they do merge with is similar.  That way the two companies can incorporate sometype of senergy together.  Over 80% of all mergers fail in the long run and many well known companies have failed in the merger game.  That being said it can still work out it just has to have the right leadership.  Many things that can go wrong etc one good book to read that helps in this area is the Wellspring of Knowledge.  Newco and Corco etc core ridgities etc helps with implementing different corporate cultures through learning, borrowing, and forgetting etc.
