Thumbs Up /Thumbs Down

Perhaps there a misconception on my part on what a thumbs up or down on a message represents. I assumed most use it as an indicator of whether you found in the post helpful in understanding what you own = thumbs up. Normally cheerleading gets you nothing. You get thumbs down if I disagree with what you post, find it - offensive, too redundant, jibberish, usless clutter and so on and so forth. I gave out plenty of reds, but on the post not the poster. I think some people might be taking the thumbs down as a personal insult, when it's not. Hope I have used the button correctly. I lost the users manual. In any case, I've decided the thumbs might be detrimental to the board. I will not be using thumbs from here on. GLTA Opty
