a friend of mine had one put in last year. Having to spend the night in the hospital, he had a roommate that had a defibrillator in for some time. My friend asked him if his had ever "gone off". The roommate said "yes". My friend asked if he would know if his goes off. The roommate said, "I'm sure you will. It's like being kicked in the chest by a horse".
