Turley - my opinions

Banos, correct - we needed new blood and someone to compliment Turley talents, not make him Patriots latest appointed one-man band of salvation to the unwashed shareholders.
Bigplay, correct - Other than the convenience of giving DP his brthday present, there was no real reason this could not have waited. This may have been a short-term SP preserving move. If so, this is too revealing of the company's actual position of impact...
Don't get me wrong - I think James Turley is a hugely talented individual. He is well-renouned and has made a sterling representation for himself as a consultant and an industry name.
But IMO, if Turley wanted to actively pursue being a CEO, he probably could have positioned himself that way to the industry decades ago, one of whom would have been more than willing to find or create a position, just to get him in the door. But he chose to consult and become an industry journalist instead. So we know where his actual comfort, desires and demonstrated strengths reside.
Some may argue that maybe no one would touch this company before the markman results - well, fine. But it's not like a week or three in waiting for a ruling would have made a difference. IMO, this was scripted to play out this way from the beginning. Turley is a known entity to S&L, PTSC and the shareholders....safe.
OK, so this is what we now have. I accept it. BUT...I'm looking to see immediate impact and changes. In his long time of being a consultant and current post responsibilities with the company, he's had MORE than enough time to assess the company, formulate a strategy and come up with a business plan. He should be able to hit the ground running, yesterday!
Let's see if he can put S&L at arms length (or out of the picture entirely), bring in STRONG supporting talent and make some tough decisions right away.
CEOs are decision makers, leaders. Lets' see if he has the stones to sit people down, surround himself with a winning team, make some alliances and take some risks and produce. If he can do that with measurable results, then he'll earn my complete respect as a well-rounded CEO.
(On a side note, the Hawk PR "machine" is sitting over on RB shamelessly producing steaming hot piles of convoluted spins weaved into the "merger" angle that only the desparate and gullible could stomach, and only politicians strategists could be proud of.)
Pump it for all you can get, Hawk.
