I got a very similiar read/interuptation as you did. One slight variation is the when J. Ward was trying to corner Cook and said its unfortunate ,my thinking at that point was perhaps the Judge knew how Cook could have better locked up his position but Cook just could not find it. (most likely the specific vs. the general argument) Any way I'm not going to speculate any more I've already done that with my wallet on this one.
