If I am an inventor-I would tend to feel like Rodney Dangerfield these days. Jeeeeesh! This IEEE is deciding for us consumers what is best for us by reining in the reach of a licensor of a patent. What a crock. If a product is too expensive for the "consumer" due to the exorbitant (.01%-2.5%) royalties (Ha!) then DON'T consume it! This is clearly backed by the old money "blue blood" crowd worrying over their duck l'orange about their shares of their infringing blue chip stocks getting socked with big settlement decisions. And the Dept of Justice is not opposing this madness? Ludicrous!
WASHINGTON, April 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Department of
Justice announced today that it will not oppose a proposal by the Institute
of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE) to implement a policy
on the disclosure and licensing of patents in IEEE's standards-setting
process. The policy will allow patent holders to commit publicly to
specific restrictions on their future licensing terms and conditions for
the use of patents that are essential to IEEE standards. The Department
said that the proposed policy may enable IEEE to make better informed
decisions when formulating standards that will benefit consumers.
