BaNosser, I have been wondering about this as well, ever since you first asked this question several months ago. I have spent the last few days researching NEC’s (funny I picked NEC in light of their announced agreement today) identified Chips and Chip Families that are proposed to be infringing on the ‘336 patent. I looked up every identified NEC chip and reviewed its datasheet (see below). In some cases, 1 chip can have up to 20 datasheets therefore thousands of pages to review, and I did not find one instance where any of the identified chips uses ARM technology. I plan on doing this for the remaining J2, but it takes some time because if you multiply the numbers of identified chips by the number of datasheets for each chip…..you get a migraine headache. LOL
SGE..Could this be why NEC settled? Could it be that even though they have an indemnification clause with ARM for their products that utilize ARM Technology (most likely ‘584), that they felt it in their best interest to settle because their exposure was higher because maybe the majority of their technology utilizes non ARM technology therefore they have no indemnification clause to protect them? Did I ask that right? Have a headache, need to take a break.
GLTAL
NEC Chip Part Number and Chip Part Family pulled from Pacer Doc filed on 08/14/2006 pages 6 & 7. TPL accused the following NEC Chips, and each member of each Chip Family, of infringing the asserted claims of the ‘336 Patent.
