You can earn activity points by filling your profile with information about yourself (what city you live in, your favorite team, blogs etc.)
I agree, however without a hub leader that is leading, drawing out discussions, posting info, etc., there does not seem to be a reason to exist. Look at the posting history, it tells a lot.
