You are saying that R.N. may have decided that he'd like to get the drop on the evil shorters, so he tells the lab to do a double take on the 15m. section knowing that they'll certainly have it done for this coming week?

I'm not sure how you would arrange to have something double checked in the lab on Friday to "discover just how rich that 15m is."  Either you're talking about checking for something else which would take more time or they should already know how rich the sample is and would just be verifying.  

I have no doubt that the end result could work out as you stated but I'm not sure that it would be the result of the motivations and actions you described.  But then....
