Dip and Plunge

When a minerlaized body is plunging in a certain direction, this means that its direction is downwards along strike (the trend direction of the minerlization). Our peridotite body is plunging to the southwest.

Dipping refers to the direction downwards the minerlaized body is going different or opposite to the strike direction. Our peridotite is dipping to the northwest.

Imagine an 8" X 24" pane of glass. Laying it flat, tilt the pane downwards along its length. The pane of glass is plunging in this direction.

Now holding the pane of glass in this plunging position, tilt it to one side while still pointing it downwards along its length. The pane of glass is now dipping in this direction you have just tilted it.

Regards,

B.
