Correct that Al named the company after himself as a bit of a joke. That is referenced at the end of this NY Times article.

It is interesting to read this piece from almost 7 years ago and see how accurate and relevant it still is today.
As to Mann selling the company, I do not think price is the only consideration, but don't tell the shareholders. Mann also want to know that whoever takes control of Afrezza and Technosphere shares his vision on how to develop these innovations.
