As a farmer, I hope you are right and the Ag sector recovers... a lot of depression going into the holiday season in rural areas.
I am not sure why I am starting this part of my post but will. Has anybody pondered the long term, and I mean 20 plus yrs, future of potash fertilizer? AS an organic farmer I don't use the stuff, and if I was conventional, I don't think I would either. Potassium chloride is poisonous (it is what many places use for executions in lethal injections I believe) and is probably detrimental to soil biology. It is a salt, which at least in my neck of the woods is too abundant in soil already, causing fertility and weed issues (kochia in particular).
So why am I a MAA shareholder you may ask? Well, I guess I like making a buck as much or more than the next guy and it maybe is no different that the non smoker buying shares in Phillip Morris. I am guessing that use of Potash will keep increasing for some time, but I also think there will be a time where cost and environmental issues will cause a reduction in all fertilizer applications because there has to. It may not even be in my lifetime, but the more inputs guys are pouring into their fields, the more other problems start up.
I think there is huge potential in this company in the foreseeable (?) future. The unforseeable... who knows.
