Yes, a BIG HIT and only more big hits are coming
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 25, 2010) - MacDonald Mines Exploration Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:BMK - News; "MacDonald" or the "Company") is pleased to provide assays from its summer exploration program, which provided higher grades and greater widths of both copper and zinc than intersected in previous drilling. In addition, a comprehensive update outlining exploration activities on the Butler Property, formerly known as the McNugget Property, is provided below. The Butler Property is located within the southern portion of the emerging "Ring of Fire" area exploration play in the James Bay Lowlands region of Northern Ontario.
Summer Exploration Program
The summer exploration program utilized both bore hole and ground geophysics, combined with a continually developing geochemistry database to direct the drilling. Based on this exploration data it would appear that there are 3-4 separate sources for the mineralization intersected within the Butler Property. The combined efforts of the technical and field personnel in conjunction with the aforementioned geological, geochemical and geophysical tools being employed are assisting MacDonald as it strives to vector-in on these sources.
The grade of mineralization intersected in the summer drill program is higher for both copper and zinc and the widths are also greater than those intersected in drilling completed in 2004, 2006, 2008 and earlier in 2010. Based on alteration mineralogy, geochemical vector analysis and 3-D geophysical modeling, it appears that the higher tenor of VMS mineralization from the latest drill results is still peripheral to the source.
The data obtained from the recently completed summer exploration on Butler 3 (refer to the Company's June 22, 2010 and July 6, 2010 news releases at www.macdonaldmines.com), which utilized these new protocols, highlights a fold-nose structure in Butler 3 target area that is considered to host the most prospective VMS mineralization on the Butler Property (as outlined below in this press release).
Exploration Overview
An overview of MacDonald's exploration activities to date is currently being completed by Robin Chisholm, P.Geol. of Taiga Consultants Ltd. The overview will be a collaboration with all MacDonald's consulting geologists and geophysicists including incorporation of their comments and reports. Initial analysis indicates that the primary conductors of interest on a number of targets have not been intercepted and remain open.
The VMS geological and geochemical interpretation on the Butler Property (primarily Butler 3) being conducted by Robin Chisholm and Craig Scherba has certainly benefited due to their role and participation as part of the exploration team responsible for the discovery of the Bisha VMS and gold deposit in Eritrea, one of the world's largest VMS deposits.
Latest Drilling Verifies Four Target Zones Containing Massive Sulphides
The latest diamond drill program was comprised of 19 drill holes totaling 4,033 metres and tested a series of Airborne Electro-Magnetic (AEM) conductors. The AEM conductors were then subsequently either re-interpreted or were re-surveyed using detailed ground based Crone Surface Time-Domain and Borehole Pulse EM systems. Drilling investigated a series of four target areas within the highly prospective Butler Volcanic-associated Massive Sulphide (VMS) mineral camp as well as one area, the "Butler 5" zone for Ni-Cu-PGE located on the east side of the property.
The main focus of the recent drill program was to explore in the vicinity of previous positive VMS drill results using down-hole EM surveys in historical diamond drill holes to identify conductors adjacent to or at greater depths than those sampled by the airborne EM survey.
The results were encouraging because off-hole Pulse EM anomalies were identified in a number of holes and the anomalies were tested by drilling resulting in intersections of semi-massive to massive sulphide being returned on Butler 1, Butler, 2, Butler 3 and Butler 4 target areas within the north limb and west limb of the Butler Mineral camp. Four holes drilled within the Butler 5 area of the south east limb did not return significant results. Please refer to the map on our website showing the 5 Principal Base Metal Occurrence Areas on Butler.

Butler 3 - VMS Target
Holes MN10-126 and MN10-131 (from completed summer program) were drilled on the Butler 3 "fold-nose" area located immediately south of the Butler Camp. The target is located west of the north limb where the favourable horizon rotates from an E-W strike to an N-S strike direction.
Current drilling was completed immediately west of nine previously completed drill holes. The current drilling targeted off-hole anomalies interpreted from the down-hole Crone Pulse EM survey, completed in drill-hole MN06-19. Target selection was also guided by a limited Crone surface survey.
MN10-126 (from completed summer program) averaged greater than 0.6% Cu over 26.71m included two high grade zones of greater than 3% Cu over 2m and a second zone of 3m grading greater than 1% Cu. Zn values over the 26 metre interval were 0.35%.

The mineralization recently intersected consisting of semi-massive sulphide is believed to represent the type of copper stringer zone characteristically seen underlying the base of a VMS deposit. The company is encouraged by this result because it points to the presence of a well developed VMS system proximal to holes 126 & 131 within the property. The company also believes that additional down-hole geophysics and 3D geological and geochemical modeling is merited and that work of this type will likely yield additional targets to test within this zone.
The recent drill results have further reinforced and validated earlier conclusions in regards to similarity of the geologic setting between the Butler 3 and the Mattagami minerals camps. This conclusion is based on the limited number of drill holes completed on this target and so the geologic picture is likely to be modified as more information is collected.
Butler 4 - VMS Target
A total of five drill holes were completed on the Butler 4 target area located six kilometers south of the Butler Camp. The Butler 4 area is characterized as an AEM conductor roughly one kilometer long separated into two sub-areas of highest conductivity. The AEM data was reinterpreted and new targets were selected in this target area. A total of five drill holes were completed on this target, two of which were drilled in the northern sub-zone and three in the south sub-zone. Significant but low grade mineralization was intersected in the northern sub-zone in MN10-116 and MN10-123. MN10-116 includes a 3.19m zone of greater than 3% Cu. MN10-123 includes a 2.6m one with greater than 1.3% Cu (from completed summer program).

In general the results indicate that the sulphide bearing horizon thought to be a continuation of that seen in the Fold Nose is also mineralized in copper and zinc within the Butler 4 Limb. The results are sufficiently encouraging that the target merits additional ground and bore-hole geophysics and 3D geologic modeling.
Butler 2 - VMS Target
A total of four drill holes were completed on the Butler 2 target area located two kilometres east of Butler Camp. The Butler 2 Target is an area of high AEM conductivity roughly 1.2 kilometres long. The data was reinterpreted and a new target identified in the western portion of the target area. Significant results were returned from drill holes MN10-115,124,129 over a strike length of 200 metres.
MN10-129 includes a 3.52m zone of greater than 3.5% Zn and greater than 0.21% Cu (from completed summer program).

The Butler 1 target area located three kilometres east of Butler Camp on the North-east corner of the property forms an area of high AEM conductivity roughly 1.6 kilometers long. The Target is made up of two sub-zones of highest conductivity within the E-W oriented limb. The target was tested by three drill holes with one completed in the west sub-zone and two in the east sub-zone. An exploratory diamond drill hole MN10-118 was drilled to a depth of 310m in the easternmost portion of the target area. Chalcopyrite and sphalerite mineralization were identified within disseminated, semi massive and massive sulphides consisting dominantly of pyrite-pyrrhotite over an interval of 62m (from completed summer program).

The geologic sequence is identified by field personnel to be composed of a bimodal felsic and mafic sequence of siliciclastics and volcanic rocks.
Management feels that the target area merits additional ground and borehole geophysical surveys as well as 3D geologic modeling to identify possible extensions to the mineralization seen in MN10-118.
Butler 5 - Nickel Target
The Butler 5 Zone target area is located approximately seven kilometers southeast of the Butler Camp and consists of a series of scattered AEM highs within a two by three kilometer squared area on the east side of the property. Previous drilling in hole MN07-39 intersected disseminated and veinlet Ni-Cu sulphides examination a target on which Dr T. Barrie recommended additional exploration work. A Crone ground survey was completed over a small area around the original "39" discovery drill-hole. A total of four diamond drill holes tested conductors within this area. MN10-122 returned greater than 0.5% Ni over 1m however no significant mineralization was intersected in these boreholes.
Interpretation of the down hole geophysics indicates that the conductors of interest have NOT been intercepted. Further exploration work is planned for the Butler 5 Zone.

On-site Quality Assurance/Quality Control Measures
All diamond drill (half core) samples were collected and sealed on site and shipped under chain of custody supervision to the ACTLABS sample preparation laboratory in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Analyses are performed by ACTLABS laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025 certified) either in Ancaster or Thunder Bay, Ontario. All core samples were selected by the MacDonald Mines qualified site geologist, and were cut in half on site by diamond saw. For security, the remaining half core was then resealed in the original core boxes. Individual half core samples were labeled, placed in plastic sample bags and sealed. Groups of samples were placed into sealed and durable rice bags then shipped out by air transport. Remaining coarse reject portions of all samples remain in storage at the ACTLABS preparation laboratory storage facility at Thunder Bay.
Independent Quality Assurance and Quality Control Protocol
A QA/QC program has been implemented to monitor all assays from the current drilling program. Samples are assembled as batches and are continuously shipped from the site for immediate testing. Included in each batch of samples are certified reference standards (every 20 samples) and blank samples comprised of sterile drill core placed in at random locations (every 20-30 samples).

About MacDonald Mines Exploration Ltd.
MacDonald Mines is a mineral exploration company with an established exploration history in the Canadian Northlands. MacDonald Mines has set upon a strategic direction of exploration with particular focus on nickel, chrome, copper and zinc in the "Ring of Fire" area of the James Bay Lowlands of Northern Ontario.
As detailed in the Company's recent press releases, MacDonald Mines has several significant mineral opportunities across multiple properties in the James Bay Lowlands.
On its Butler Property, new volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralization of substance has been discovered. Four VMS mineralized greenstone fold limbs, all of which have now yielded VMS mineralization over a potential cumulative strike length of approximately 20 kilometres, have been identified and the Butler Property has the potential to host a new VMS camp with characteristics similar to those seen at Matagami or Noranda in Quebec.
MacDonald's highly prospective Hulbert-Salo Property contains very conductive and discrete targets within a layered magnetic structure, which is typical of magmatic massive sulphides containing nickel. The Hulbert-Salo appears to have the potential to host a Voisey's Bay-type nickel deposit.
The Company's Big Mac Property exhibits high-priority nickel and copper targets with geological and geophysical signatures similar to the significant chrome discoveries of Freewest and KWG-Spider.
