Interesting that both GT1 and Avalon, in which I have a small stake, are both vying to build conversion plants in Thunder Bay. AVL has a partner for their plant, RenJoules International Ltd., an Essar Group Company, and the plan is for AVL and Essar to co-fund the conversion plant and run it as a seperate private business, Avalon Lithium Inc., which will be seperate from AVL.
When they say co-fund I'm not sure how much AVL can contribute, considering that they have a current market cap of C$61 million, and the plant will cost something in the order of C$500 million. The news release mentions that they will look fo additional private investors for the plant and I'm just wondering if there might be some synergy if LAC/GT1 pooled with AVL/Essar to make a single, larger conversion plant in Thunder Bay, rather than comete with two smaller ones in the same business park.
Someone is going to build a conversion plant in Thunder Bay - it will be interesting to see how things play out. I expect we'll be hearing more next year.
