It is important to note that the source of the article above is a pro Union and "Far" Left news provider in the local area of JuJuy Province, so there is a definite bias on the part of the reporter. That being said, it remains that Exar is in what appears to be "a heap of trouble" now over the SARS-CoV-2 cases that they are being charged with that spread because of the companies non compliance with generally recognized public health measures designed to limit the spread of Covid-19. There doesn't seem much of a way to sugar coat the failure of Exar managment and CEO in this situation.
All investors in LAC will want to continue to follow these developments as this story unfolds, regardless of the bias of the reporting news source. Of course when I say "All investors" I obviously mean those who are not committed to continuie to wear blindfolds to any negative development for LAC.
My use of "All investors" obviously excludes those who prattle on about "KA BOOM DA BOOM $$$$$$$$$" or other such flights into the world of denial and fantasy, taken there as they remain on board the good ship: HMS Delusion.
Seriously, the circumstances occuring in Argentina clearly document the need for LAC investors to remain truly circumspective and view all sides of the situation. Pavel has always been an excellent example of the circumspective approach. It is definitely painful to be true to the process of circumspection, but that pain is far less than the pain ultimately faced by investors who refuse to exercise a judicial weighing of factual information in a true Pro AND Con format in their minds. This Hub is dedicated to seeing that both sides of the situation are discussed, not in a Pumper vs Basher methodology, but in such a fashion as to achieve a fair examination of available information... regardless of where that examination leads.
Although unlikely, hopefully there remains some way that the situation of Exar at JuJuy Province will be ameliorated in such a manner that possibly an agreement can be brockered between the government and the company whereby a criminal conviction is avoided, but undoubtedly if that occurs there will be a significant price to pay in damages. Of course, if a criminal conviction is the outcome for management and the CEO of Exar then this will have a huge impact on the Ganfeng-LAC Joint Venture in Argentina, in fact, even if the whole incident is somehow "managed" by some under the table deal ( not likely ) this still willl be a major boulder in the road to success for LAC there in Argentina.
I begin to see more and more why LAC has shifted its focus from Cauchari-Olaroz to making a future for itself with Thacker Pass. It makes perfectly good sense now. JMO
Translated from the above link you will find this exerpt from that article:
"These worker contagions add up to the 175 in the mining company Exar S.A of Chinese-Canadian capitals, which is under construction of the plant that seeks to process lithium in the salar Olaróz-Cauchari in the department of Susques.
Considering the contagion of workers linked to lithium mining, they would account for 30% of the total workforce. According to the latest report "Economic Impact of Mining in Jujuy" (November 2019) lithium mining is comprised of 566 workers from the companies Sales de Jujuy, Exar and South American Salars.
In turn, this report notes that in all
mining activity on average almost half of the staff are under contractors, that is, with forward contracts and with job precarization situations. In fact, mining wages in Jujuy are lower than the rest of the country as indicated by the Nation's Ministry of Labour. It is these working conditions that facilitate the business of mining multinationals, at the same time, which in the midst of the pandemic leave workers exposed to contagion as they have denounced."
