Welcome back, RC2! Yup, there is a definite future for short distance electric commercial flight and there are quite a few companies working on filling that sweet spot in commercial air travel. It is quite expensive for commercial jet planes to just get up into the air on take off and it is a matter of diminishing returns for the airline if the plane goes up and down to land in just a few minutes for short hops. Electric planes will fill this gap and do it very well.

One comment from this 2nd article: "The large aircraft of today, built for economy of scale, are no longer viable. It is much better to individualise transport in small vehicles if economy permits and electrification could do just that."
