I happened to run into a business colleague yesterday who had just come out of a lunch and learn investing seminar (stockbroker marketing seminar more likely). I jokingly asked her if they said what I should do with my mining stocks that have been killing me.
She said they had just been told that the market always goes up in the long term and that people should hold their stocks. Too many people sell too early. "Investing 101", I thought to myself.
I have no intention of selling any stocks in this downturn, instead I am buying (what I can). When the going gets tough, the tough stay put and ride it out (within reason).
No-one in this group needs Investing 101 advice, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded that a long term view is better than a short term one when things get tough.
Cheers,
