LRAD Corporation has responded to the U.S. Army's Request for Information (RFI) for 6,350 AHD systems, but ongoing delays in passing a Federal budget have slowed the procurement process. However, under Urgent Operational Needs Statements, the U.S. Military continues to purchase LRAD systems.

The U.S. Army Reserves purchased LRAD 500X and LRAD 100X systems and support equipment including vehicle mounts and wireless kits for multiple options for deploying LRAD systems in a variety of applications.

"We're pleased to receive this latest order from the U.S. Army Reserves to equip more of their vehicles, including MRAPs and HMMWVs, with LRAD systems," commented Tom Brown, president and CEO of LRAD Corporation. Twin Cities Daily Planet Mentions LRAD in Military Operations on Urban Terrain (MOUT) article

MOUT’s more restrictive rules of engagement have spurred the development of “less-lethal” technologies intended to subdue or repel crowds of people. Many of these less-lethal technologies have ended up in the hands of domestic police agencies, including the rubber bullets used during the Seattle WTO protests, and the LRAD (Long Range Acoustical Device) systems deployed in Oakland during Occupy protests last fall. Both technologies were initially designed for use in urban environment peacekeeping operations.
