Thailand's Department Of Disaster Response Orders LRAD® Systems to Support Flood Relief Operations
SAN DIEGO, CA, October 27, 2011 – LRAD Corporation (NASDAQ: LRAD), the world's leading provider of long range acoustic hailing devices (AHDs), announced today that Thailand's Department of Disaster Response has ordered LRAD 100XTM and LRAD 500XTM systems to support their flood relief efforts. Thailand is experiencing its worst flooding in decades after three months of heavy rain. The order is shipping immediately.
"From Hurricane Katrina to the 2010 Haitian earthquake and this year's devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, LRAD systems have proven they can bridge the communications gap during catastrophes," remarked Tom Brown, president and CEO of LRAD Corporation.
Using advanced sound reproduction technologies and innovative acoustic materials LRAD systems are vastly superior to bullhorns and other portable mass notification systems in loudness, intelligibility and broadcast distance. LRAD requires less manpower to deliver instructions and warnings over larger areas, enabling disaster relief personnel to maximize their communication efforts when natural disasters disrupt existing communications infrastructure.
"LRAD provides government authorities and disaster response personnel a highly effective communication system to clearly broadcast critical information, multi-language instructions, and warnings into affected areas over distances up to 2 miles in any type of environment and terrain," Brown continued. "Ground-based or helicopter-mounted LRAD systems can be used to warn of pending flooding, evacuate populations, direct survivors to aid stations, warn of contaminated food and water supplies, announce evacuation routes and assembly areas for rescue operations, and other critical warnings and information. We're pleased to support Thailand's Department of Disaster Response during this crisis."
