What's diiferent about silver today is that there is very little of it relative to gold and relative to the amount of silver available back then. If you look at the data from the 1920s - there were mountains of silver everywhere. It was also in coinage in many countries, and so readily available. Today, very few investors own physical silver - apparently, it is too "bulky".
