Ferdinand Lips: A Return to the Gold Standard?

Law and order cannot coexist with paper money over the long term. ---Ferdinand Lips

I would advise all of you to take a listen to Jim Puplava's Interview of Mr. Lips before he died. It is in the Ask the Experts archives on the Financial Sense Website. (3/8/03)

It is starting to become plain to me that the United States will have to return to a gold standard. If this sounds strange to you, I am sorry. Your grandchildren will look back on fast food, $4.00 gasoline and the dollar we think of as such a necessary part of everyday life, and they will think of us as strange.

Even though I think Jim Willie is a little wacky sometimes. I think he’s right about the the distinct possibility of a new gold-backed basket currency being formed in the future, possibly the near future, by the Chinese, Russians, Arabs and possibly Swiss and Germans.

I’ve just been thinking of what I would be doing if I were the Chinese. Planning how to overthrow the U.S. Dollar is exactly what I’d be doing.

I’d also set it up to happen very quickly, like a bomb. How could I do this? I really don’t think it would be that hard. Hannibal nearly destroyed Rome by taking advantage of the arrogance and stupidity of its leaders. It’s hard to find a more arrogant and stupid group of leaders than the bunch we have in Washington right now. (Can you imagine George Washington, Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson sitting down in a room with George Bush, Barack Obama and John McCain to have a discussion about government?) Come to think of it, It’s hard to find a more arrogant people than what we’ve become over the past generation. We really believe there is something special about us, that we are God’s chosen people or something. The Chinese, I believe are much more aware of this than we are. They know us better than we know ourselves. This is a dangerous situation for us to be in. They slowly get stronger as we get weaker. Soon they won’t need us anymore. When they are ready, the lights will go out. Bull
