Go to 321 Gold and Read Bill Bonner's artilce entitled: Bubble in Babies Bursts teh Baby Boomer's Bubble if you get time. Bonner is very intellignet and witty. I especially enjoyed his take on effiecient markets,.. "we can all see that our allegedly "efficient capital markets" are not so good after all. In the best of times, the markets were "efficient" at aggregating large amounts of other peoples' money into overly-risky securities, selling them off to suckers, and then paying out large salaries and bonuses to the insiders who toiled their lives away in over-priced rental digs on the island of Manhattan."
He makes a very intelligent observation about the myth of a self-sustaining service based economy. In reality a service based economy is there to service the manufacturing base of an economy. This whole service based economy myth I have looked on with skepticism for many years now. Bonner does a good job of pointing out that essentially a pizza restaurant that quits baking a selling pizzas eventually really has no use for waitresses or kitchen staff or window washers, even if the govenernment continues to keep them emplyed and prints all the money they need to pay their salaries.
