Creating value through Exploration and Development in the Sierra Madre of Mexico
All:
According to Mexican mining law, in order for a party to acquire rights to mine minerals in Mexico they are required to apply for and acquire a mining concession. The Ministry (Secretariat) of Mining is the Federal Mexican Government ministry charged with controlling all mining matters.
I am not an attorney, but the gist of this is that in order to pull stuff out of the ground in Mexico, you essentailly have to have the blessing of the Mexican Government. When a party gets that blessing, they are essentially granted "a mining concession." So basically Kimber, or rather Kimber's Mexican subsibiary has been granted these new concessions. This appears to be good news for us Kimber investors, essentially it tells us that whoever Kimber has down there working with the government on our behalf is doing his job well. The Mexican government is not different than any other government or govening body in the sense that if they don't like you they can make thing very difficult if not impossible to get done. This is definitely a positive because it demonstrates a favorable attitude of the governement towards not only mining but Kimber specifically. This is the best I can do to interpret this annoncement. If anyone has any other insight, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a call into Kimber's IR to clarify their opinions on this most recent development. The press release makes it sound almost like this was just a gift from the Mexican Government. I am not sure of the events that led up to these occurrences. Was this land that Kimber already owned that it has been waiting on concessions involving?Did they own an option to purchase this land if the concessions were approved? SB
