Message: NEWS RELEASE: HOW TO REIGNITE THE RING OF FIRE AND MINING IN NORTHERN ONTARIO – by Heather Hall and Ken Coates (Macdonald-Laurier Institute – May 18,

How to reignite the Ring of Fire with lots more Hot Air. This proposes meetings, discussions, committees, studies, plans etc, and just one single paragraph even mentions infrastructure. That paragraph suggests how  representation on the ROF Infrastructure Development Corporation should be constituted.

Everything said in this is so blindingly obvious none of it requires any study and all should have been done years ago.

The train has left already. Industry has to lead, since no-one else has done a thing to advance anything beyond the careers & remuneration of a few bureaucrats, and a couple of office cleaners and office equipment suppliers. Jobs created, see.

The Federal government has to maintain the obligations it undertook when treaties were signed. To me that includes clean water and at least minimal standards for schooling, health care etc. It certainly isn't industry or mining in particular which should do this.

By the same token the Feds aren't obliged to build roads or anything else for industry to use. They could offer loan guarantees for infrastructure, and spend actual cash on infrastructure directly beneficial to people already living nearby.

Just get on with it. Now.
