Message: Has anything really changed for the ROF
Payback will come to Wynne for supporting Trudeau but I don't think it will be for the ROF. Infrastructure for southern Ontario will come before ROF. Trudeau has identified for Fns education funding, clean water, and increased standard of living. On the social/political side, nation to nation relationship, missing and murdered women inquiry and recognizing treaty rites. No where will you find specific reference to the ROF in the Trudeau paltform. The Ont Libs do not have the $1Bil allocated to the ROF and the IPO for Hydro One looks like it might come in $500Mil less that they had originally banked on. The mantra from the Wynne camp of "getting it right" will now focus on the FN standard of living issues as cover and the FNs will not allow advancement of the resource issue until these issues are mandated and secured from both levels of gov't. The fed Libs had opportunity in the past to address these living standard issues and haven't exactly been successful so the FNs will be skeptical. Ironically, the MP(Nault) who defeated Rickford was actually the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs in the late 1990 - early 2000 Lib fed gov't and didin't get much done for the FNs.

Mantra stated by FN ( I think it was Moonias and subsequently by Bob Rae) years ago was "the ore isn't going anywhere". ROF will progress but not expecting anything substantive for at least a year or maybe even. Any major corporate entity would be foolish to risk wading into the ROF with any major $$ commitment until the social needs for the FNs are resolved. Not sure how KWG and for that matter NOT can continue to survive financially while the other issues are resolved. Both may be forced to sell out at less than what their claims may be worth once the ROF becomes viable.
