key points:
- 15% tax credit for exploration extended by another year
- Costs related to EA and community consultation would be eligible under "exploration"
- Fed acknowledged: "Costly, lengthy and grueling environmental studies and community consultation processes in Canada are among the factors that have prompted many miners to bet on projects in politically risky jurisdictions overseas in recent years."
But not sure if it would do anything to minimize these factors to "make Canada an attractive place to invest in mining exploration". Putting it another way: "to stop exploration companies from fleeing Canada". Note: No exploration = no mines = no jobs = no tax revenues = no wealth generation from our natural resources.
In summary
- No $1B contribution for RoF transportation. Perhaps, the Fed (and Prov) wanted to wait for the conclusion of the court case involving KWG and CLF before any major funding announcement. Monday 2 March is the deadline for KWG to finalize its Appeal submission. Then CLF will need to decide how to response: spending more money to defense the case, or drop it to have an out-of-court settlement with KWG.
- At least, the tax break would help juniors raising money for exploration. But I would not call this a major announcement.
