Message: Re: Harper Government and Province of Ontario to Announce Investment to Promote Econ

The NOT board is lit up with speculations regarding the EW road as proposed by NOT. The speculation was based on the Fed announcement at PDAC on Sunday 1 March (1:30pm) with the presence of our beloved Minister Gravelle and the 4FNs. NOT proposed EW road, the green line from the junction north of Pickle Lake to Webequie Jct. The Alternate EW road proposed by KWG is the fat line that looks like a dew worm is also shown on this map. This Alternate road runs between Nastantaga and Eabametoong,... and about 75km from Marten Falls. See link below for the map (KWG website, under Photo Gallery).

The 4 FNs mentioned are: Webequie, Nibinamik, Nestantaga, and Eabametoong (no mention of Marten Falls).

Because of exclusion of Marten Falls, it was speculated that if the announcement was for the funding of a road to the RoF it would be the NOT route.

- Webequie is an obvious beneficiary along with Nibinamik since they are just some 25km away from the NOT EW road.

- Nestantaga is third in line at some 50km away, and

- Eabametoong is the farthest at about 100km away from the "green line".

Note: Marten Fall is way out to the East.

On the other hand, if it's the Alternate EW road (the fat dew worm) then the two closest communities woulld be Nestantaga (30km), Eabametoong (25km), Marten Falls (75km) and Webequie would be connected at the end via the RoF and Webequie Jct. In this scenario, Nibinamik is left out like an orphan, unless it it connected from Webequie Jct, some 75km away (but doable).

It would appear that it's a toss up between the EW and the Alternate EW, or a hybrid version, depending on the political winds and the pressure from the FNs.

On thing for sure, Marten Fall (Chief Moonias) will not let this go by without speaking out to make sure that Marten Falls in at front and centre. Perhaps we should think about a NS corridor as well as part of the entire transportation package (Marten Falls is about 75km from the RR and a small service road, see map). And that would please everybody.

Just my speculation. By all means, weigh in for corrections, opinions, etc.
