Message: Re: Cliffs donates $6,900 to the PC Sudbury byelection campaign

AUH20,

The CBC article says: "Gerry Lougheed and Vale each gave the Liberals the maximum donation of $9,975 during the 2014 byelections (underlined mine).

Meanwhile, the Progressive Conservatives got $6,900 from Cliffs Natural Resources and a $9,440 cheque from Sudbury-based Pioneer Construction.

None of those big corporate dollars flowing yet in the Sudbury byelection, although that might happen long after election day.

Parties are allowed to keep fundraising until May 5."

The reporting is not as clear as expected from the CBC. But, it would appear to say (same as you have indicated) that the donation from CLF was for 2014, and not a new contribution for 2015. In fact, the reporting is convoluted in a way that it does not explain clearly the difference between the Sudbury byelection and the Progressive Conservative Party contribution, which may flow in the Sudbury byelection to support the PC candidates. In addition, the last two sentences (about the timing and date) in the quote did not really add anything, but confusion.

Confusing reporting aside, it's interesting to note that CLF gave money to the PC (not sure if they gave some to the Lib, but presumably, CLF would want to keep one foot in each camp, a few $ks are chump change for a big company...perhaps I should take this back given CLF recent financial status, lol).
